Parents are able to register their child at the nursery school at any age and are given the opportunity to view the nursery for themselves.

Children awaiting Government funded places for 3 and 4 year olds are organised according to their date of birth with age as the main criteria governing admission. The length of time a child has been registered plays no part in the selection.

24 places are reserved as Neighbourhood Nursery places for parents who meet the given criteria. (Priority for local parents followed by parents living in another ward identified amongst the 20% most disadvantaged wards then parents from other areas who wish to take up places.) In addition the nursery has facilities for 9 babies and 12 toddlers in our 0 – 3 unit. These places are available throughout the year and are subject to our Pay Policy.

Normally, a child is 3 years of age when admitted into Maintained Nursery School but occasionally younger children are admitted at the request of Social Services/Paediatricians/Health Visitors.

Nursery education provided by the LEA is generally part time although Eastfield can offer some extended provision. Children joining the Maintained Nursery do so, on a part time basis for the first term, but have the opportunity to extend their attendance according to their need.

Eastfield has a very mobile population with people moving into and out of the area. Shortly before the child is due to commence nursery, parents are contacted to confirm that the place is still required. Once confirmation is received, parents are informed of the next stage of admission which involves an informal meeting between staff, child and parent in nursery where home visits plus a series of further visits into nursery can be mutually arranged.

Nursery is closed for the older children to enable this initial meeting to take place.

The term child/children includes babies and toddlers.
