Eastfield Nursery School opened in 1972 as a two—story conversion of an annexe of the former Eastfield Secondary School. Part of this former school now houses Eastfield Primary School. A thriving Community centre has also been Established on site.
The Nursery caters for 120 children on a part time basis, but offers a number of full time places.
A teacher with one incremental point and an Early Years Support Practitioner staff the upper floor. The lower floor class is staffed by three nursery nurses, two Early Years support practitioners and is overseen by the Head teacher.
The children are placed in family groups with each member of staff responsible for a group of 10 children. There is opportunity for children to work as individuals, or collaboratively in small and large groups experiencing materials/equipment of their own choice or those provided and selected by adults. Time is planned for adult/child interactions.
Children are admitted into nursery around their third birthday, depending on the availability of places.
Children living in Wolverhampton born between 1st September and the end of February transfer to full-time education in the September preceding their fifth birthday. Children who's birthday falls between 1st March and the end of August begin full time school in January.
In May the school received a DFES award for excellence.
